“After graduating, I hope to take one year off to work in freelance writing or editing. I will then enroll in a Graduate Program for Library Science and Information Studies. My professional goal is to work as a Librarian in a Public or Academic Library.
During my time at the Leadership Institute, I gained the confidence and resolve to continue perusing my educational goal. I learned to be a better public speaker and to take initiative. Before I was accepted to the Leadership Institute, I lacked the confidence and motivation to even share my ideas. However, now I understand how important it is to be a positive voice in my community. I presented at an academic conference this year and would not have had the courage to do so without the skills I gained from my peers and General Saunders. Overall, the Leadership Institute was a life-changing experience and am grateful to have been surrounded by a great and empowering group of people.”
-Maria Cano, English
“After graduating I will be working with Fidelity Investments. Attending TWU was an amazing experience. The TWU Leadership Institute helped me develop more my leadership skills and have a more realistic view and preparation for the real world. I’m thankful to say that I’m now a more confident person.”
-Anay Gonzalez, HR Management
“After graduation, I am attending graduate school for Speech Pathology at TWU and finishing my fourth year of gymnastics. As a member of the Leadership Institute, I learned about budgeting and how to specifically work with other personalities.”
-Erin Alderman, Speech-Language Pathology
“I will be interning at an energy company called Vistra Energy where I will be learning about corporate law and will continue working with a criminal defense and family law attorney.
I also plan on working on my application for law school.
Leadership Institute taught me the importance of stepping up to be a leader, but also giving others the opportunity to lead as well. Leadership Institute demonstrated their genuine care for us and our future. They want us to be successful.”
- Africa Hernández, Criminal Justice
“After graduation, I will be working as a Speech and Language Pathologist. Over the course of two years, I enhanced my leadership skills through the mentorship of Maj. Gen. Saunders and Judy Elias.”
-Charity Brown, Communication Sciences and Disorders
During this exciting event, we gave our graduating seniors a warm-hearted salute and send-off just before graduation. Fine-dining, good conversation, building jelly bean toothpick towers were just a few of the fun activities that everyone took part in.
Congratulations graduating seniors, we couldn't be more proud of you!
During the 2018 spring semester, our group of students spent the night at an outdoor retreat center, Lone Oak in Gainesville, Texas. There, they took part in team building dynamics. They participated in various activities that challenged each of them to think critically as individuals while working together as a cohesive team.
Our very own alumnus, Shwaun Dizayee, is in his last semester of grad school at Slippery Rock University in PA. Also, after spring break, his Special Olympics IUS Unified High School Bocce team is going to the state competition in Hershey, PA.
"Remember to BOLDLY Go. Enjoy your time at ODK. Take a step out of your comfort zone, so that you can grow.”

On March 7th, 2018, the Leadership Institute held its annual ODK Induction Ceremony. We would like to give a special thanks to our speaker, Dr. Carmen Cruz. Finally, we wish to extend a warm welcome to our new ODK members!
